Recognize the material

Bearded iris has three outward or downward falls and three upright standards. The strap-like leaves overlap in a flattened fan.

Botanical reference: Iris germanica — NC State Extension

Make a deliberate design choice

Turn a real stem to compare its front and side profiles. A tall bloom can look narrow from one direction, while the leaf fan adds a flat green plane. Check where the falls sit relative to the rim before cutting.

A comparison you can reproduce

Compare measured stem and vase heights in Vase Advisor, then test the actual head clearance. The proportion result cannot establish that the flower and its leaves fit the opening.

The comparison is an original BLUMIVELA planning exercise, not a tested arrangement or a botanical treatment.
