Recognize the material

Salvia farinacea has small two-lipped flowers in spikes, with pale mealy-looking hairs on the calyces and upper stems. The stems are square and may branch.

Botanical reference: Salvia farinacea — NC State Extension

Make a deliberate design choice

Inspect flower density along an actual spike. Two blue-purple materials can form quite different lines at the same stem count. Leave enough of the spike visible to make the distinction useful.

A comparison you can reproduce

Use the scientific name to avoid substituting culinary sage or another Salvia. Compare three and five stems with focal counts fixed. Purple SVG marks cannot depict calyx texture or identify a cultivar.

The comparison is an original BLUMIVELA planning exercise, not a tested arrangement or a botanical treatment.
