Recognize the material

Symphyotrichum novae-angliae has narrow purple rays around yellow discs. Its stems and leaves are hairy, and the leaves clasp the stem.

Botanical reference: Symphyotrichum novae-angliae — NC State Extension

Make a deliberate design choice

Inspect a whole branched stem to judge fullness. A close-up explains one head but not the area occupied by an entire piece. Keep the exact name when discussing alternatives sold simply as asters.

A comparison you can reproduce

Save one New England Aster stem beside a focal group before trying three. Compare real branch width and keep it distinct from False Aster; a shared daisy-like appearance is not an identification.

The comparison is an original BLUMIVELA planning exercise, not a tested arrangement or a botanical treatment.
