Recognize the material

Eryngium planum has compact blue-toned heads with narrow pointed bracts. Its flatter basal leaves differ from the bract collar around the head.

Botanical reference: Eryngium planum — NC State Extension

Make a deliberate design choice

Compare a head against a broad leaf and another spiky material. If outlines merge, reduce competing texture rather than adding more sea holly. Inspect the real stem before placing it against delicate flowers.

A comparison you can reproduce

Save two stems before trying four with the focal color unchanged. Check real collars for visibility. A steel-blue appearance can vary by material and stage; a blue SVG mark is not a cultivar or finish guarantee.

The comparison is an original BLUMIVELA planning exercise, not a tested arrangement or a botanical treatment.
