Recognize the material

Panicum virgatum has narrow leaves and open branching flower panicles above an upright leaf clump.

Botanical reference: Panicum virgatum — NC State Extension

Make a deliberate design choice

Hold a real panicle against the intended background. Fine branches can disappear against a busy wall, even when they look attractive close up. Evaluate one plume before building a dense screen.

A comparison you can reproduce

Measure the full stem and available space above the vase. Compare one and three purchased grass stems. The palette mark does not reproduce fine branching, transparency, or movement.

The comparison is an original BLUMIVELA planning exercise, not a tested arrangement or a botanical treatment.
